SOUTHWEST ASSOCIATION CONFIRMATION RETREAT
Plans for the Confirmation Retreat for the Southwest Association are in the works! Our potential theme is Let Just Roll. Lisa Hart is trained in the Justice Led (Leaders Engaging and Developing ) resources from the UCC Justice Witness Ministries. See www.ucc.org/justice/training for more details on that. It includes program ideas for Confirmation Retreats that would:
engage youth in discussion of justice issues in their life
connect youth with the role of justice in the UCC traditions
give youth a theological foundation for engaging in justice issues
Our plan is to provide a training session perhaps in early August for:
leaders who would like to help lead the confirmation retreat
church leaders-lay and clergy who would like to use these resources for the fall programming
Training and one resource per church is free although we may have to charge for meals and other expenses.
The snag is state wide teacher conventions are NOT being held, which means that none of the school districts we looked at had school off on the days we normally have the retreat.
Some have the Friday off so we could have a Friday-Saturday event or a Saturday Sunday Event or a One day event or two one-day events.
We can also explore if this is the best time of year or would a Jan or Feb event be better.
There are a couple of other fall options that Confirmation Classes can attend.
Elmhurst College has a Confirmation Day usually the first week end in Oct
